Buddhist Monk at Staples??

Note that I’m not at all religious, spiritual, or have a set belief defined. However, about 5 years ago, in the midst of going through another one of those drastic, self-evaluating, contemplating the meaning of life, & human existence phase, I turned to a Buddha book given by a friend in hopes to possibly find “enlightenment” or be “enlightened” by his story.

Nostalgia

It’s interesting how some person, place, or thing, brings us back to certain memories so vivid, that it’s like we are reliving it. Sometimes when we’re have a bad day, (all of us have had at least one of those days), some of us try to think of a setting that brings us happy thoughts or good memories. When we hear a song that played regularly in the past, it brings us back to memories of the past. Sometimes seeing an object, smelling a certain aroma, or hearing a certain sound triggers a “flash back” making us feel nostalgic.

Jealousy

I initially wrote an article on jealousy in the dojo from a martial arts stand point. But here I rewrite it from a general perspective… Jealousy. We’ve all experienced it at one point in our lives. We see it throughout history, the media, and probably in our everyday lives. Something expressed directly or indirectly, or kept inside when we feel it. Some of us deny it but we know deep down sometimes we wish we had what someone else has, whether it’s materialistic, characteristic or ability. The topic of jealousy seems to be unspoken of or rare in discussions whether it’s too upsetting or awkward to speak of or admit.

Loneliness

What is loneliness?  What does it mean to feel lonely and what does it also mean to not feel lonely, or to never feel lonely again?  Based on experience and observation, loneliness is not the same thing as feeling alone, but often a strong emotion of longing for a particular friendship, relationship or presence that is currently absent in our lives.  Sometimes it’s a result of feeling hurt.  Sometimes it means reminiscing, really missing a friend, family member or significant other, and really agonizing the need to fill that feeling of emptiness.  It’s normal for anyone to have experienced feel loneliness in their life time.

Campus Food, the Discovery Channel Experience

Growing up eating mostly authentic Asian food, (with the occasional American restaurants), when I had to live on campus for college, I had no idea what most of the foods were in the dining hall or even how to eat it.  Not only that, but my body also kept rejecting the food.

Scapegoat

Were you one of those kids who were always blamed for something you didn’t do or just the aura you give off makes you an easy target to be?  Maybe throughout your life, or even as an adult, at home, at work, etc?

Society That Loves To Hate

It seems like we live in a society that loves to hate.  No matter how much love we are taught, earlier on in life as a child, we know what “hate” is and what it feels like to hate.

How to Save Money in the Real World By Not Spending $44 on a Fashion Belt

I think I should start my own talk show.  Here’s why:

Not too long ago, I was watching a talk show online while job hunting, and there was a fashion special on “how to save money” on clothes for less.  But as always, I was VERY disappointed on these “deals” because these “deals” are still too much for anyone on a budget.  They were showing a $44 fashion belt and shirts about $35.  In the real world, if you’re struggling financially, you’re going to rake more debt if you regularly spend this much on clothes or sacrifice food on the table.

Where are you from?

As in Asian, one of the most frequently asked questions I get is “Where are you from?”  It’s not that I get offended.  I just get confused.

Racism.. Does it Still Exist?

I’m definitely NOT the kind of person who blames “It’s because I’m Asian,” for every unfair abusive treatment I get.  Despite that, it is shocking how many people I run into, who don’t seem to believe racism is a problem or exists around the area.  I can’t pinpoint why, but maybe because it’s lack of exposure to the situation, or maybe it’s just plain denial– We don’t want to believe this problem occurs around us.  Sometimes, in disbelief they may create other possible reasons, to why a person mistreated another.  But for some of us, we know that racism existed in the past.  The question now is, does racism still exist?
